Water rattled the vines of the willow trees and carried away the reeds, posed as sheltering, into the rivers flow. Dirt turned to liquid mud and rushed down from the steep valley hill side and over the community, tearing down shelters and dens.
" Mint!"
The landslide came closer and closer to the destination of the small group of cats. Many fled by yet more remained in search of their kin.
" Mint! Evacuate all cats from the area and lead them to the Autumn Ruins before the slide reached us." Yowled a ginger she cat from high above the moors ledge.
The silver she cat threw her head over to the ginger cat. " Right away, Cinnamon!" She called before evactuating her kin. " Mint let's go! When it reaches we all will be fossils!" Mint called leading the cats away.
" Go ahead! I must find Ash. Her kits will be born momentairly." Cinnamons gaze sharpened once Mint ran in the direction of the slide. " You mouse brained fool! She holds only one kit! There will be more in the next moons!" Mint stopped and glared at her leader. " One kit could hold a brilliant future that you can't describe nor foreshadow." She stated before ducking beneath the thick under brush. " Ash. Where in the stars have you gone?" She popped her head through a fox hole. " M-Mint." Her gaze shifted to the she cat who was out of breath. " What in the stars are you running from?!" Mints question was retracted when she saw the liquid mud began to flow through the tunnel. She sprinted behind her kin and shoved her hindquarters with her head, making her rush quicker. She continued this until the entrance was insight. Mint stopped running then sprinted, with her head bowed, at Ash before her head rammed her back, sending Ash through the entrance as the mud took over Mint. " Mint!!" Ash cried reaching her paw out to the silver tabby. " Be sure that your kit grows strong and becomes bright as the stars." Mint called struggling in the mud before she was rushed over by the liquid.
" Y-yes. It shall grow like you want it too. Bright and Strong. Light the young Sterling you used to be." Salty tears streamed from the corner of her eyes as she remained where she was. The slide stopped, almost as if it was frozen in time from Ashs' fallen tears.
Chapter 1
Ash weaved through pillars of rock and sand. Her mind still glued onto the landslide event, where Mint died to save her and her unborn kit. " Mommy?" She smiled and turned to the silver frosted kit who wailed behind her. " What is it deary?"
" Minty has gone missing have you seen her?" Ashs' ears flattened against her head. " No, Sterling, I haven't seen Minty." Sterling dropped her head then threw it back up. " Well then I guess I must find her then." The young kit laughed before vanishing through the undergrowth. Ash starred at the ground. I wish she would out grow her imaginary friend she created from the story I used to tell her about Mint, but I changed up the events to make Mint seem like a useless cat at first but then the savior of her home. She was so sparked by the adventures I told her she created Minty, a replica of Mint. Maybe if she knew the truth she wouldn't be in this imaginative state. If only...
"Sterling! It's time to retire!" Called the mother of the kit.
" Coming mother!" She called back while looking into a patch of tumbleweeds. She shifted around and leapt off to Ash. Please visit me tomorrow Minty, I want to leap from tree to tree and swim the river on our next adventure.
Sterling skidded to a hault at the rocky entrance. She padded in slowly, glancing at all the other female cats you laid around the den. " Don't forget to eat." Juniper called to Sterling, throwing a trout at her paws. She picked up the slimy tail of the fish and dragged it down to the bed of reeds and moss. " Did Minty go home?" Ash licked the back of Sterlings ear while she devoured the trout. She nodded with a mouthful, making some chewed fish spill out her jaw. Ash smiled sweetly and laid her head on the moss.
Once her belly was full, Sterling dragged the trout up to her mother and shook her muzzle with two paws, waiting for her to reply. " Yes?" Ash lifted slowly with a yawn. " Do you want the rest of the trout?" Ash shook her head.
"Give it to Heather. She'll need the energy to hunt for us tomorrow." Sterling bit down on the tail, dragging it across the rocks and over to the brown she cat. " Here Heather." Sterling spat out the tail and looked at the cat with glistening eyes. " Thanks Sterling." Heathers tail waved against the ground, making dust gather behind her.
" Come now Sterling, you should retire." Sterling nodded with a yawn before walking over to Ash and curling up against her flank, for warmth. Goodnight my little star.
