The Half-Breeds (Open)

Plot: In a medieval time period, half-breeds between a dragon and a human live in the world shared by their half species. Humans, as always, tend to love power. Therefore, they are at war against all sorts of dragons and capture them to create technology similar to how dragons work. Regular full dragons are uncommon, yet the half-breeds thrive, trying to live a life alongside the humans that hate them so. By working together, a small clan of half-breeds with each different powers and elements, are sure to get somewhere in their so cursed lives.

In the base, home to practically each half-breed in the clan, Astrid stood guard at the front entrance. There was a camp carved deep inside one of the largest mountains on the planet. One could say that perhaps almost the whole mountain was hollowed out for the use of half-breeds. Though, of course, there werent as many half-breeds as one may think, but just enough for a mountain to be made a home for half dragons. There was a main hall on the interior, which also had small crevices on the walls that a dragon could live comfortably in, similar to a cave home. However, the place wasnt as nice as it may seem. The clan was impoverished, many people had to take care of themselves, and fights usually broke out. On top of that, wars with humans popped up here and there. The whole place was near the point of breaking. Yet Astrid still stood guard. She could never give up such a place to the cruel human hand. She'd protect her now only home and her only comrades. She had always dreamed of making peace with the treacherous humans, as odd as that may seem considering she was half human, though she knew peace would come with time...But thats where the other half-breeds disagreed. They all knew they could wipe out the humans, it was easy, and there Astrid made the others obey her. She may have been second in command, but even the commander thought the way she did. The half-breeds couldnt destroy the humans, not yet, not ever. She knew that there was potential in human life...She just had to find it.

A small house, almost like a shrine, sat on the side of the mountain within the base borders. Chimes hung from the wooden rain gutters. The wind gently ran through the bamboo and metal flutes, thus making songs play. The sliding door slid open. Carrie stepped out. This was her home. She could afford it, just barely though. Her brown eyes looked forward at the bases central. She turned back to her home and slipped back in slamming the door shut once more. Inside there were many weapons and tools. Some sometimes call this place a blacksmith because of the weapons she creates for her own personal use and sometimes for the other warriors and guards. Her tail and wings appeared. Carrie loved them. She hated having to have been separate from the humans because of their differences. Before the hybrid base was created, she heard tales of humans and hybrids at peace-harmony and trust. If only we could return to those days-if there truly was such a day. We could put our differences aside. But yet we are concealed within these invisible walls-separate. Yet some how I believe these humans still are truly good at will and not the monsters they seem. She thought while walking down a hall of hanging weapons. She pulled down a sword and shield, and began to edit and redesign them.

A rumbling growl came deep from with her throat as the she cut through the air. Strong, steady wings glistening with ice kept her airborne and her long blue tail lashed back and forth.

Faster, faster, faster!

Up and down, she moved her wings, relishing the feel of the wind slapping against the hard blue scales. Spiraling through the air and up into the clouds, she smiled to herself as the cold vapor landed on her wings and turned to ice.

Suddenly, a quiet twang! broke her from her euphoria. An arrow whizzed up towards her. In a split second, she turned back into a hybrid and grabbed the arrow in midair. Even in the freezing cold temperatures, she could feel the burn as the metal shaft slid against the palm of her hand.

Turning back into a dragon, she studied the arrow closely.

Gleaming steel shaft, red and white feathered fletching, a hard flint point. Isn't this from the... humans? What are they doing in the mountains?

Another arrow flew by her, just barely missing her wing. I'd better go and tell Carrie and Astrid that-

She heard the arrow before she saw it, but it was too late. She screamed in pain. The sudden agony made her shift into a human and she began to plummet down. The arrow had buried itself deep into her shoulder as she fell, crimson droplets flickered from the wound.

She hissed in pain as she shifted back, and with great strength, forced her injured wing to move.

The camp was below her and she let herself glide downwards, clenching her jaw tightly. As soon as her claws brushed against the springy grass, she shifted into a human and collapsed onto the ground.

Worried faces surrounded her in a blurry haze as she tried to focus and struggled to get up. Someone pushed her back down and she lay on the ground, the arrow still deep in her arm and thick liquid dripping from the wound.

Her long, silver hair was splayed out on the ground and her deep violet eyes slowly fluttered close.



"Carrie...? Astrid...?" Krystal whispered.

Astrid had a chill run down her spine. She felt like something was off, though she couldnt tell what. Glancing around, every thing was still and purely silent. Leaning against the mountain side, she thought about leaving the spot she assigned herself to, but then again, that would just make the others argue that she wasnt doing her job. Sighing, Astrid hoped that whatever made her feel the way she did, would be resolved soon. Though that thought had began to make her worry...What if some one was in trouble? She did have a knack for that kind of stuff, but she tried to shrug it off. Looking out to the distance, Astrid mouthed out the words, Please be safe...

Darkness, thick and heavy, surrounds me on all sides. I try to feel for something, anything, to show myself that I'm not alone. Suddenly, a brilliant trickle of light streams from somewhere up ahead. I slowly walk towards it, moving carefully. I take another step forwards and bright sunlight washes over me, blinding my eyes. I open my eyes to see a lush, wonderful world and smile to myself. Taking another step, I close my eyes. But when I open them again, I'm strapped tightly to a chair with heavy chains biting into my wrists. A beautifully cruel face steps out from the darkness.

High cheekbones, smooth pale skin, lips curving into a triumphant smile that revealed flashing white teeth. Her eyes were narrowed, the deep purple orbs darting around the room and finally resting on me. A black cloak covered her hair and billowed behind her, although silver wisps spilled from the hood.

"I've been waiting, sister..."

My scream echoes throughout the room.

Krystal woke up with a gasp, her hair sticking to her back of her sweaty skin. Her heart thumped erratically as she noticed she was in the infirmary with bandages around her wrist and up her arm.

With the sudden panic and fear gone, the throbbing pain in her arm returned. "Ow..." she hissed.

She tore off the blankets and hopped down from the bed, looking for someone to tell her what was going on. I wonder if Astrid has her shift right now? I sure hope so because then I know where to find her.

Krystal looked down and noticed that someone had given her fresh, new clothes in exchange for the sweaty, bloody ones. She was wearing her own clothes and shoes and when she passed by a bathroom mirror, Krystal realized that her silver hair was brushed and pulled into her signature high ponytail.

She continued down the long hallway, her shoes clicking against the tile floor and echoing through the hall. Finally, she reached the entrance and grinned with delight and relief when she saw the form of Astrid leaning against the mountainside.

"Astrid!" Krystal cried happily, flinging open the door.

Sketch sat down in a room with the scent of multiple incents lingering in the rooms. The darkness gave him pleasure. There was no sound and everything was peaceful. He sat down in a red cushioned bench that was laid against a curtained window. His jackets straps wrapped around his mouth and kept him warm. His laid back and moved the curtain a bit to look outside. Usually he placed himself in solitude unless someone needed immediate healing or are on the brink of death. Also if someone just needed to speak with him about priest related stuff or healing stuff. He closed the window back up. He sat there lazily, thinking. As he thought he was never warned about the one who feel from the sky. Because of that he could help or anything, but how could he help with the knowledge of knowing what happened?

Astrid gave Krystal a soft smile as she appeared right beside her. "Hey! Its nice to see you again!" Standing up straight, Astrid rotated to face her comrade. Looking her up and down, a worried expression formed onto her face. "Um, did ya need something? Is everything alright?" Now gazing into Krystal's eyes, Astrid couldnt help but feel like something was wrong. She didnt feel like it had to do with Krystal but instead with something far over the horizon...

"Okay, Astrid." Krystal spoke in a soft, yet serious tone. She planted her feet in a wide stance on the ground as if preparing for what's coming. "There... there are humans. In the mountains."

She motioned to her bandaged arm. "I was flying and several arrows -human arrows with red and white feathers- flew past me. This on hit my wing."

"It can't have been a mistake!" She cried. Krystal took a deep breath.

"Astrid. My power is water/ice. But sometimes now, I have fire powers, too. The only thing that can do that is my counterpart. There's only one explanation for this."
